“You can’t run when you’re holding suitcases.”
I heard this quote recently from a pastor and I think it’s the perfect analogy for what the Lord has been teaching me lately.
Whenever I think of suitcases I think of airports and traveling. Airports are full of two kinds of people: those early birds who arrive five hours before their flight and those late birds who arrive 25 minutes before boarding. The latter is our family. Somehow we never could make it to the airport on time and we end up having to run like a little boy who just upset a swarm of bees.
Now imagine running like that with a couple of heavy loaded suitcases attached to you. It’s no easy business guys. Especially when your suitcase on wheels decides to do a 180 flip every time you run over a little crack….
You can also imagine someone walking in life with these big suitcases and they’re bursting at the seams and attempting to move, but as they’re walking, the suitcase flies open and this picture of an ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend flies out or a metaphoric blanket of sorts like fears, hurts or rejection of the past.
This is a reminder to me why baggage is there and what it represents.
I’ve held onto things in the past before and held unto it almost like it was treasure. I didnt realize that the point of baggage is to slow us down and to keep us in a place where we can’t fully operate in the things God has called us to do.
We have to remember that we cannot run when we’re holding on to suitcases. We need to drop them and let them go and just run and move forward and never look back at the baggage from the past because we’re free from it…. Romans says that we are no longer slaves to sin. We are free.
We need to be heeding Paul’s words in Hebrews 12:1 when he says, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.”
Is there anything that is hindering or tripping you up in running the race that God has set before you?
The sin that so easily entangles you (suitcases) can be things like watching things that are not pleasing to God, holding on to unforgiveness, jealousies, insecurities, unconfessed sin… All of these things will keep you from effectively running the race and from fullfilling the calling that God has placed on your life.
Sometimes God is just waiting till you simply lose and drop those suitcases in your life. He’s waiting till you are fully surrendered unto Him in order for Him to say… “Aha, now I can finally use you for my Kindgom my son or daughter.”
Ask God to help you lose those suitcases in your life and watch as He then uses you in the most amazing way for His Kingdom.
Vaya Con Dios,
